Bridgewalk, a Landmark Resort
We were sold on BridgeWalk by its spot on Bradenton Beach's Bridge Street, the pier...
Plenty of hotels call themselves a design destination; Art Ovation actually went and partnered with one. The Autograph Collection property in downtown Sarasota built its concept around Ringling College of Art and Design, and the partnership runs well past the lobby art: every one of the hotel's 162 rooms holds a leather-bound sketchbook carrying an original drawing by a Ringling student, alongside colored pencils and a ukulele, an open invitation rather than a gimmick in a city that takes its art scene seriously.
We chose Art Ovation because its art concept is structural rather than cosmetic. The Ringling College partnership supplies rotating gallery-style exhibitions, student-drawn sketchbooks in every room, and campus events guests can attend directly; an on-site artist studio keeps working creatives present in the building rather than referenced on a wall plaque. Overture, the restaurant and gallery lounge, and the Perspective rooftop bar extend the concept into dining and nightlife, so the art theme carries through an entire stay rather than stopping at check-in.
The hotel sits at North Palm and Cocoanut Avenues in downtown Sarasota, with the Perspective rooftop bar's 360-degree views taking in the marina and Bayfront Park. Sarasota's gallery district, the Sarasota Opera House and the city's restaurant strip are all within walking distance, and the barrier-island beaches — Lido Key and Siesta Key among them — are a short drive west. It is a downtown base built for guests who want Sarasota's arts and dining scene on foot, with the beach treated as an excursion rather than the main event.
Prix: €€€ (Premium)
Vibe: contemporary, art-forward, downtown-social
Chambres: 162 contemporary rooms with city views; family suites available
Best For: design-minded travellers, couples wanting a downtown arts base, creatives
Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the leather-bound sketchbook of original student art left in every room
Dining: Overture restaurant & gallery lounge; Perspective rooftop bar for cocktails and light bites
Amenities: rooftop pool, on-site artist studio, in-room music system, live art workshops
Attractions: Sarasota's gallery district and Bayfront Park on foot; Sarasota Opera House nearby; Lido and Siesta Key beaches a short drive
The details are what make the concept hold up: colored pencils and a ukulele alongside the sketchbook, an in-room music system, and city views from rooms designed to feel like a studio apartment rather than a standard chain box. Family suites extend the concept to groups without diluting it. The consistent thread is that Art Ovation treats its guests as potential participants in Sarasota's creative scene, not just an audience for it.
Perspective, the rooftop bar, pairs 360-degree views of the marina and Bayfront Park with a chic pool deck, while Overture downstairs functions as both restaurant and gallery space, rotating in work alongside its menu. The combination gives Art Ovation two distinct social scenes — one for sunset drinks with a skyline, one for a proper dinner surrounded by art — without needing guests to leave the building for either.
This is a downtown hotel, not a beachfront one, so guests prioritising direct beach access should look to Lido Key or Siesta Key instead and treat Art Ovation as a city base. The art focus suits travellers genuinely interested in Sarasota's creative scene more than those wanting a conventional resort stay, and the hotel's popularity with design-minded visitors means rooftop bar seating and gallery events can book up during Sarasota's busier art-season months.
